5 MINIMALIST TIPS TO MAXIMISE YOUR LIFE
1. PURGE INSTEAD OF ORGANISING
Whenever faced with big piles of hoarded items, always consider purging instead of just simply organising the mess. Problem with organising is that it will become a mess again and therefore require you to reorganising the space. Thus taking away more of your time and energy. Think about the last time you have used the item. If you have not even touched the item in last 6 months or so chances are you will be much better of tossing or donating instead of storing it away taking up space in your household.
2. USE IT OR REDUCE IT
Do you really need 20 bedsheets, 15 Towels or 50 spoons? The point of the question is that if you find yourself holding on to multiple items of one kind you need to either use it or reduce it. I have previously mentioned using the method of pin pointing your most loved items from any pile of items first here. What that basically means is that if you have 20 bedsheets, go through each of them and pin point the ones you love and use the most. The rest? Well, reduce the ones that you really could do with out and in reality probably won't end up using much anyways.
3. REPLACE & REPURPOSE
Learn to repurpose your possessions. Find ways to reuse your existing things. Maybe a little bit of DIY project could transform your item rather than buying something totally new. If you must buy something new why not swap out something old to replace? Also, next time you replace something in your household at least consider to repurpose the item meaningfully if it no longer serves any benefit to you, pass it off to someone who can truly gain value from the item instead.
4. BEAT THE CLUTTER CREEP
If you find your living space constantly becoming cluttered and needing to always purge or organise, try to solve the root cause of this situation instead. What do i mean by beat the clutter creep? Well, somehow you are ending up with all these things in your house that eventually builds up to soon becoming a pile of mess constantly needing to organise. Figure out what is causing all these clutter and how it is forming in the first place. Implement strategies in order to avoid clutter from creeping up in to your life in first place. Strategies such as stop bargain haunting, shopping in impulse and intentionally leaving your counters empty would lead to decreasing the clutter creep impact significantly.
5. REDIRECT TIME & CONSUMPTION
It's important to often sit and analyse what things in life are you putting in more time and effort and how it is impacting your life. Minimise the things in your life that has the potential for you to live a more calm and meaningful life so that you can focus on things in your life such as family, self development, attaining more skills and knowledge. It is important to pin point how you are spending or wasting your precious time and redirect it. If you are finding your self more and more spending time on cleaning and dealing with "stuff" then its time for you to intentionally redirect your time spent. Initial purging will free up your time down the road for some leisure time instead.
Redirecting your consumption would also be beneficial in the long run. If you are constantly spending your hard earned money in to buying things that lose its value over time, maybe consider redirecting some of the consumption in to more meaningful activities. Instead of going on a shopping spree next time with your friends, rather go to an event and spend money on experiences instead of buying more things. The value of experiences and memory last way longer than happiness from buying new things.
