5 WAYS MINIMALISM CAN HELP TO REDUCE NEGATIVE MATERIALISTIC BEHAVIOUR

The concept of minimalism and living a more minimalistic life promotes the idea of being more intentional with your time, purchases and choices in life. By incorporating minimalism theories in life you can help eliminate certain tendencies such as over consumerism and materialistic behaviour. I have been analysing my self and my own minimalism journey to come up with ways that minimalism reduced my own materialistic behaviours. So, in one way not only am i briefly sharing ideas based on real life experience (aka my own) but also general result often others experience in regards to this topic. Lets have a casual and brief conversation regarding how minimalism can help eliminate materialis behaviour most of us often possess.

5 WAYS MINIMALISM CAN HELP TO REDUCE NEGATIVE MATERIALISTIC BEHAVIOUR:

1. MINIMALISM HELPS YOU TO ANALYSE YOUR BEHAVIOURS

As mentioned earlier minimalism promotes being more intentional. Being intentional is also great tool for analysing your behaviour and helps you to question things you are utilizing efforts in and how it is impacting your life.

2. MINIMALISM PROMOTES DECLUTTERING

We are all constantly surrounded by marketing and promotions to encourage us to consume more and influence materialistic behaviour. Minimalism on the other hand promotes you to not only be intentional with your purchases but also encourage decluttering your possessions that no longer serves any purpose to you and allow you to let go of things that are just simply cluttering up your life and physical space.

3. MINIMALISM SUPPORTS MINDFUL PURCHASES

The initial decluttering process often makes us realise the useless purchases we have wasted our time, money and effort on to only redeem it as useless soon after purchasing. Minimalism requires you to understand that your time and effort to earn hard earned money is often spent carelessly during mindless purchases.

4. MINIMALISM REDUCES NARCISSISTIC TENDENCIES

Often our narcissistic tendencies plays role in increasing materialistic behaviour. Just like above mention of actions such as analysing your behaviour and mindful purchasing, minimalism allows you to truly find meaning behind the things you do. The level of self development that can occur from practicing minimalism can honestly help to put things in perspective and develop to becoming a much better person. Such as for the purpose of discussion using your social media usage for example, minimizing your social media presence can most definitely help you become more productive, reduce procrastination and decrease fear of missing out syndrome in the long run and also reduce the feeling of measuring your life and comparing your own happiness based on other people's social media highlights. It also helps you to question the things you do and why you do it. Did you really snap a picture of your shiny new purchase to simply share an update or just down low showing off and boasting about it? Maybe without even noticing your ultimate hidden motive.

5. MINIMALISM INCREASES SOCIAL AWARENESS

The thing you will for sure start noticing once you begin incorporating minimalism into your life, is the fact that you will step by step become aware and interested in topics that you probably never really paid much attention to or your views and analysis of certain things will be completely questioned. Some of the topics and social issues that Minimalism often can lead you to analyse are for example: your career, what you are achieving for the time and effort you are putting into some things in life, your money and financial decisions, your greed for hoarding on to things, consumerism impact on society and environment, impact of unethical business practices. Topics such as these and many more will not only increase your social awareness and curiosity, but understanding and attaining more knowledge regarding these issues will most definitely  influence you to better your life and reduce negative materialistic behaviour.
